On one side of the campus is Yosemite, two irrigation channels running through the campus. Currently, the main campus (Main Campus) is still expanding and under construction. The research lab still has some of the buildings in the Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, 10 miles away. Transport and Parking Services (TAPS) is committed to providing safe and reliable parking and transportation services to all students, faculty and visitors. Currently, the school has a shuttle bus to and from two campuses, providing services from the campus to the nearby community and downtown Mercedes.
Safety: Living on campus doesn't just mean having a place to eat and sleep. Students living on campus can reach libraries, computer labs, health centers, entertainment and sports facilities within walking distance. On-campus life also provides students with many opportunities to help them focus on learning and build friendships with new friends. For first-year freshmen and transfer freshmen enrolled in the fall, the school guarantees that students have on-campus housing. The residence halls are: The Valley Terraces, Heritage Apartments, Sierra Terraces, The Summits, AFRO Hall.
Diet: The University of California at Merced is close to the wealthy San Joaquin Valley area. The catering service offers high-quality delicacies for a variety of culinary and dietary needs. Students living on campus can dine at the Yablokoff-Wallace dining center and other places in the campus community, or find a quiet picnic spot outdoors. The Food & Beverage Service also operates the Lantern Café in the Leo and Dottie Kolligian Library and the Diesel Dogs food cart. The local restaurant also runs a dining car on campus during the working day, offering food from Thailand, Mexico and other places.
